Forest Park is not an empty space on a logistics map. Families live here. Children go to school here. We work, own businesses, and build lives here. We are being asked to absorb increased train traffic and hazardous material shipments, even as the Board acknowledges impacts to air quality and noise. But this does not happen in isolation. We already contend with severe noise, air pollution, and traffic congestion from heavy industrial activity. Evaluating this proposal in a vacuum ignores our cumulative burden. Where is the line? How much additional noise, pollution, and hazardous cargo can Forest Park absorb before someone says, "Enough is enough"? We hear about supply chain efficiency and corporate savings, but what does the average resident receive in return? • Are property taxes going down? • Are emergency services funded for hazardous material spills? • Are our roads safer or quiet zones funded? • Or are corporate profits maximized while all the pollution, risk, and congestion are dumped on us? If the STB considers this proposal, you must account for cumulative impacts and mandate legally binding mitigation before approval: Full transparency on train counts, hazmat volumes, and localized air/noise modeling. Direct funding for local emergency preparedness and hazmat response. Mandatory investment in quiet zones, grade-crossing safety, and road repair. Independent neighborhood air quality monitoring and property value protections. The "public interest" is not a corporate balance sheet. It is the mother raising children near the tracks and the taxpayer facing rising costs. Forest Park is not a sacrifice zone. I urge the Board to prioritize the health, safety, and lives of Forest Park residents over corporate profit margins.
