Hello, my name is Markus E. Adams, and I live in East Pittsburgh Borough. East Pittsburgh is within a 2-mile radius of US Steel Edgar Thompson Works in Braddock PA. East Pittsburgh is also located approximately 5 miles from US Steel Irvin Plant in West Mifflin, PA. Finally, East Pittsburgh is located approximately 6 miles from US Steel Clairton Plant in Clairton, PA. Because of these locations US Steel constantly finds itself at odds with, individuals, community groups, Allegheny County Health Department, EPA and other regulatory agencies. This has been an ongoing saga for the last 125 years and it can be challenging at times to deal with. Now we're being made aware of the intended UPC acquisition of control of NS and what that means. I live within 1 mile of the railroad line that will be impacted by this acquisition and its proposed changes. As I compose this message, I am listening to a train travel that line. This goes on day and night. There are times when my windows are open that the exhaust or fumes are carried by the wind coming down the valley and right into my home. Not only mine but the home of every single resident of (I will only speak for this borough) East Pittsburgh. Then there are the nightly sounds that when approaching a railroad crossing the engineer, by law, must sound the trains horn. It will blast two or three times for several seconds at 2:30am to 3:00am. This also is challenging to cope with. In preparation of this message, I located the American Lung Association's State of the Air 2026 report. Did you know that Allegheny County, PA failed every single pollution test and rates number 16 nationally for the worst annual particle pollution out of 211 U.S. metros? Impressive for all the wrong reasons. It is wrong to increase railroad traffic, air and noise pollution and exposure to related illness for the sake of shareholder profits. Please do not add to an already difficult situation. Markus E. Adams Mayor of the Borough of East Pittsburgh
