Our community and fire district service area has 19 miles of double main line running through it, which results in lots of trains per day. For the most part, the trains do not have visible exhaust, and we don't smell it when they do (at start up). I do not have any environmental concerns with this merger and I feel due to the economies of scale and efficiency, it should be allowed to go through.
