FD 36818 · CENTRAL OREGON & PACIFIC RAILROAD, INC. – LEASE AND OPERATION EXEMPTION INCLUDING INTERCHANGE COMMITMENT – UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY

Comment EI-33671

Received or sent (printed as 1/26/2025)

To the Surface Transportation Board, I strongly oppose Union Pacific’s proposal to lease operations of the Eugene railyard to CORP, a Class III railroad company. The replacement of skilled, unionized workers with less-experienced, non-union employees poses a significant safety risk. CORP’s history of poor management, such as on the Coos Bay branch line, demonstrates negligence in maintaining infrastructure and safeguarding communities. Additionally, Class III railroads lack the financial resources to handle disasters involving hazardous materials, leaving taxpayers to bear the cleanup costs. This proposal jeopardizes community safety and environmental stewardship, and I urge the STB to reject it. Sincerely, tyler yrineo
