I am writing to oppose the proposed rail project by Texas Materials Group in Burnet and Lampasas Counties due to its significant and irreversible environmental impacts. The increased noise, vibration, and pollution from rail traffic will disrupt nesting and breeding patterns of birds, including protected species. Also. the amount of dust that would be in the air by moving quarry rock by rail is unhealthy for humans, flora/fauna – & all the animals, birds and pollinators on my property. I have planted native plants & created a large pollinator garden for bees & butterflies. We are one of the stops for the monarch butterfly & hummingbird migrations. We have seen bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, red-shouldered hawks, roadrunners, & wild turkeys on our property. We have both white-tail & mule deer. A roaring train traveling nearby would scare off or kill off much of our natural wildlife. Burnet is the Bluebonnet Capital of the World! Lady Bird Johnson would roll over in her grave with the number of homes (human, animal, birds) that will be destroyed by this rail. The proposed rail line’s proximity to local creeks, watersheds, & aquifers raises serious concerns re: water contamination. Runoff from construction activities could introduce harmful pollutants into our waterways, endangering aquatic ecosystems and affecting drinking water. We are at the D4 level which means “Exceptional Drought” in this area. Our nearest lake is down more than 20 feet! We live near a railway on the south side of my street, and several years ago a train caused a significant wildfire. The increased rail traffic will generate significant amounts of air pollution. We moved to Burnet for peace & quiet for our retirement years. We love the small-town community & do not want to spend our twilight years in a rail yard. Burnet is not meant to be an industrial trap; it is a tourism gem. Please keep it this way & stop the quarry Sincerely, George & Lori Allen
