On behalf of the Hurst Place Maintenance Board and the 93 homeowners we represent, we strongly oppose the proposed Texas Materials railway project near our community and urge you to take action to stop it. The rail line’s proximity to residential areas poses serious public safety risks, including derailments, hazardous spills, and fire hazards that could overwhelm local emergency services. Noise pollution from heavy freight trains, especially at night, would disrupt residents’ well-being, causing sleep disturbances and increased stress. Diesel-powered locomotives will degrade air quality, endangering vulnerable populations such as children, seniors, and those with respiratory conditions. This project contradicts efforts to reduce environmental harm. Additionally, rail construction and long-term operations will fragment natural habitats, disrupt wildlife, and pollute water sources, harming our Hill Country environment. Property values will also suffer. Studies show proximity to industrial rail lines deters buyers due to noise, pollution, and safety concerns, jeopardizing residents’ most significant investments. We recognize the need for infrastructure but urge opposition to this project in favor of alternatives that do not threaten our community’s health, safety, and economic stability. Thank you for your time and commitment to protecting Burnet County residents. Sincerely, The officers and members of HPMB
