My family has owned property near the proposed rail for 34 years. We recently acquired a portion of the family land and are building our house this spring. We\'re moving back to Lake Victor to build a quiet, peaceful life for our family. We\'ve invested several years and tens of thousands of dollars into making this dream a reality. The area is quiet, the air is clear and breathable, and there is a sense of peace and removal from the chaos that emanates from Austin. It is devastating to learn that our quiet community could be upended by a railway through the countryside. Our property is at 3022 County Road 205, which is less than 1/4 mile away from the proposed line. We oppose the rail. We are concerned about what it will do to our property value; having a train disturb the peace and shaking the walls of our home at all hours of the day and night; and the air quality and potential for fires. There isn\'t a fire station anywhere near our property and if a fire started, we could lose our home and potentially our lives before first responders reached us. We are also concerned for our children. Part of the reason for moving here is so our children can grow up riding bikes, attending church and playing outside, and going for walks. It would be unsafe for our kids to grow up near railroad tracks. Please give careful consideration to property owners, especially those who have owned generational land for decades along this route and whose backyards would be encroached upon. We ask that you consider the people who have spent their lives and their hard-earned money to make homes here. Texas Materials is a privately owned company trying to make more profit by cutting costs to transport materials. The money they would save does not compare to the years of money and hard work that dozens of property owners have expended to build lives in this area. We ask that you carefully weigh the benefit to this company against what the rail would cost property owners and their families.
