I own property at 1005 Summit ridge rd, the proposed primary route for the new rail line. This additional lines of rail on my property will contribute to the following conditions, not to mention my water well is within 150ft of proposed tracks. This will render my property entirely uninhabitable Diesel locomotives contribute to air pollution through the release of pollutants like nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter (PM), and greenhouse gases (GHGs). Idling trains in yards and terminals can exacerbate air pollution in nearby communities. Diesel exhaust can also contain harmful substances like benzene and formaldehyde. Dust from tracks and ballast can contribute to air pollution. Noise Pollution: Train noise can disrupt human and wildlife behavior, especially in areas near tracks and stations. Noise from trains, especially at night, can be a significant nuisance for residents. Vibration from trains can also be a source of noise pollution. Water Pollution: Leaks from fuel tanks, lubricants, and other hazardous materials carried by rail can contaminate water sources. Runoff from tracks and yards can carry pollutants into waterways. Railroad ties treated with creosote or other chemicals can leach into the soil and water. Soil Contamination: Spills of hazardous materials can contaminate soil, impacting plants and wildlife. Railroad ties treated with creosote or other chemicals can leach into the soil. Heavy metals found in the water bordering the tracks are often caused by leakages from petroleum products carried on the system. Wildlife Impacts: Trains can collide with wildlife, causing injuries or deaths. Noise and vibration from trains can disrupt wildlife behavior and habitat. Habitat fragmentation due to the construction of railway lines can negatively impact wildlife populations.
