I am writing to express my firm opposition to the Puerto Verde project (which is spear headed by Ruben Garibay) in Maverick County. There are several critical reasons for my stance, which I believe should be taken into serious consideration. Firstly, there has been a deliberate obfuscation regarding the origins of the Puerto Verde project by its proponents. It has come to light that the project is connected to a project out of Sinaloa, Mexico, a fact that was never disclosed to the public or the officials overseeing the project. Moreover, one of the officers associated with the project has a questionable past, raising concerns about the integrity and transparency of the project's leadership. More importantly, the sustainability of the Puerto Verde project is highly questionable due to the severe water shortage in Maverick County. The county already faces significant challenges with water resources, and adding a project of this magnitude would exacerbate these issues, leading to detrimental effects on the local community and environment. Additionally, the control of Maverick County has seemingly been ceded to Ruben Garibay, who has heavily contributed to all representatives in a position to approve this project. This raises concerns about potential conflicts of interest and the impartiality of the decision-making process. As new details continue to emerge, it is evident that there were many unknown factors when the Puerto Verde project was initially proposed. It is crucial that these revelations are thoroughly investigated and taken into account before any further steps are taken. In conclusion, the Puerto Verde project poses significant risks due to its obscure origins, questionable leadership, and the severe water shortage in Maverick County. I urge the Safety Transportation Board to reconsider the approval of this project and ensure that the concerns of the local community are addressed. Thank you for your attention to this matter
