I am firmly against this project because it negatively impacts our way of life and the well-being of everyone in our community. It will increase air pollution in our area, which already struggles with poor air quality, leading to more cases of lung cancer, asthma, and other serious health conditions among residents, especially affecting our children and elderly. The risks don’t stop there. In the event of a hazardous material spill, it could contaminate our sole water source, the Rio Bravo River. This wouldn’t just be a minor incident, it would be a devastating, potentially irreversible environmental disaster. Not only could it pollute the river for years, but it could also trigger explosions or fires depending on the type of chemicals involved. This project would also place a tremendous strain on our Emergency Response units. Our local Ambulance, Fire Department, and Sheriff’s Department are already stretched thin responding to emergencies throughout the area. Additional traffic congestion and potential hazardous incidents would only increase their response times during critical situations, putting more lives in danger. In emergency scenarios, every second counts, and any delays caused by blocked roads or increased rail traffic could mean the difference between life and death for someone in need. Additionally, the increased industrial activity would pose a serious risk to public safety and quality of life. It would disrupt the peace of our neighborhoods, increase noise pollution, and negatively affect local wildlife populations and ecosystems. The long-term impact on both the environment and the health of our residents is too great to ignore. For all these reasons, I firmly stand against this project and urge decision-makers to carefully consider the lasting consequences it would have on our families, our environment, and our future.
