Dear Surface Transportation Board, My name is Daniel Flores. I am a U.S. military veteran and a proud first-time homeowner in the neighborhood that Puerto Verde plans to cut through with its railroad bridge project. I am writing to express my strong opposition to this proposal, which threatens the safety, health, and well-being of our community. This neighborhood is more than just a place I live—it’s the first home I’ve ever owned after years of service. I chose this community because of its quiet streets, strong sense of connection, and the hope of building a stable life. The proposed railroad bridge would destroy that. The area is already a designated flood zone, and we’ve experienced firsthand how even moderate storms can overwhelm our drainage systems. Adding a massive infrastructure project in this vulnerable area will only worsen flooding, putting our homes and safety at greater risk. We also deal with heavy traffic daily. Our roads can barely handle current volumes, and the introduction of rail crossings or construction disruptions will make things worse—delaying emergency services, increasing accident risks, and making life more difficult for families and commuters. On top of that, increased rail activity would bring more diesel emissions, noise pollution, and environmental degradation. As someone with a vested interest in this community’s future, I’m deeply concerned about the health impacts on our residents—especially kids and seniors. This neighborhood is full of life, traditions, and pride. We host block parties, holiday parades, and look out for each other. A railroad bridge here would not just be a physical barrier—it would fracture the community we’ve worked hard to build. I respectfully urge the Surface Transportation Board to reject the Puerto Verde railroad bridge project. Please protect our neighborhood, our homes, and our way of life
