Our concern is not only of pollution but possible and potential chemical spills. Not only will it affect humans, but all other living organisms in the surroundings such as animals and vegetation in addition to our water. According to an article in National Geographic one study conducted at the BNSF Railway Hobart Railyard in Los Angeles, the California Environmental Protection Agency estimated that residents living near a railyard experienced a higher risk of carcinogen exposure. That means increased cancer risk rose between a hundred and 3,000 times compared with surrounding areas. This area is already a high cancerous are, we don't need any more. The project will also have an impact during construction due to the lack of available roads open to the city. Del Rio Blvd. is a high traffic, five lane road that connects the city to the highly populated neighborhoods of Seco Mines, Deer Run, Hopedale, Elm Creek, plus Quemado and Normandy. There is no other local road that connect to the city. During construction of we will be stranded from any emergency services due to closures. We all know that a construction of that magnitude is not done in a few days. It takes months, possibly years to complete which will make traffic problems for a very long time. I personally have children, children who I was trying to raise healthy and strong. The Green Eagle Railroad, will only shorten my children's and other children in the surrounding areas life expectancy. Our children are our future, let's give them a safe and healthy environment to live in.
