I am strongly against this project as I live approximately 1 mile radius proximity from the building site. My decision is based primarily on Safety for my health & that of others around me. Scientific studies repeatedly have shown that people who live near a railroad site, have a lower life expectancy. This is so because of the increase in health risks for asthma, heart disease, lung disease, higher risk for cancer due to the exposure of particular matter that comes from the train. Additional hazard exposure due to the different material that will be transported and the constant smell of fuel diesel. Safety due to greater overflow of traffic causing greater potential for motor vehicle accidents. Needless to mention the high noise impact resulting in potential auditory damage to many. In the past years, several new studies have been conducted strengthening the evidence for a link between exposure to high environmental noise and ill health, especially with regards to cardiovascular and endocrine health, immune function, sleep loss, and mental health. We do not need any greater risk of developing unnecessary anxiety, depression that will result from constant worry and lack of sleep. As a concerned citizen, I request reevaluation of project site. Perhaps consider outsourcing to a non populated area, away from residents. Local media outlets have disclosed 2 previous land appraisals which both concluded this area was declared a FEMA Flood Zone which also makes building site unsafe placing us at higher risk for a potential hazardous spill. Our city is not prepared for a HAZMAT disaster.
