Greatly concerned by the lack of transparency to the local, vulnerable citizenry regarding the project which will impact every facet of life--environmental as well as economically. Water resources are already taxed to the maximum--no irrigable water for the region and no access to potable or low water pressure. This railroad is only one arm of the expansive projects whose effect is a complete take over of the county resources by Puerto Verde LLC. The area has been targeted by Puerto Verde LLC because local politicians were "ripe for the taking," seeing opportunity to gain millions of dollars by developing their own land, bought by having early and inside information. Puerto Verde has systematically and by design targeted local politicians and groups with a grand plan of monopolizing local resources, a bridge, the railroad, a highway, the airport and by building a 300 residence community--all in one area. This development is epic in proportions and none of this information has been made easily accessible to Maverick County citizens. It is by sheer force and complaints to the Commission of Judicial Conduct and federal court in Del Rio, Texas that information has been dragged out of the people spearheading this expansion. There are clear signs that tax money and grant money are being used to fund infrastructure for all the projects of this private corporation, Puerto Verde LLC. Puerto Verde expects to make all the profits yet burden the community with paying for costs of in-kind matches for grants which will really benefit this private corporation. While they promise opportunities for employment, their own study footnotes that a work force may not be readily available, but they will have built their empire on the backs of the struggling taxpayers of Maverick County. No one wants to obstruct progress, but these projects should not be squandered by local county politicians and given outright to a corporation -instead be kept in the county or city of Eagle Pass, TX.
