I'd like to say that I think the environmental impact of this project is huge and far outweighs the benefits. The green eagle railroad (GERR) is a hazard to not just to Seco Mines but all of Eagle Pass (EP) as toxic chemicals go into the same air and into the same water. The COVID pandemic traveled all the way from China to all over the world. It poses a real threat to the Rio Grande river and by doing so puts at risk most of the southwest texas border towns and possibly even all the way to Houston as that is where the mouth of the river lies (into the gulf of Mexico). Any derailment can be disastrous. If our water gets contaminated, many of us will be gone. I think it is a matter of "when" will there be a derailment not "if" as the GERR has to connect with the Union Pacific RR in EP and that act will make a derailment even more possible. I truly do not think this is safe and is too high a price to pay to improve trade between Mexico & USA. I think the GERR should find another route where it does not pose such a risk and will not be so close to some neighborhoods. Water is life. EP has many flood zones especially where the GERR will pass by and Piedras Negras is itself a flood prone city as it lacks a drainage system. The Rio Grande is simply ecological property. To make matters even worse Puerto Verde seeks to relocate our newest bridge that has already been paid by us and place it where part of the Fort Duncan Museum will be gone. We are the taxpayers and are the last to know. Most citizens of Eagle Pass are unaware of the project as no official notice of sch project has been given to our physical address. I myself found out online on April 19. I even believe this project should be made known in all the state of Texas as it includes most of the southwest just as it was recently made known about EP's border crisis. This is a bigger possible crisis. Puerto Verde had 6 months to get a presidential permit, the president 60 days to decide, us a month to who found out.
