Citizens need more time to submit comments! We have just learned how to file online/access forms online and also if mailing. We have to teach citizenry how to access these forms so they have adequate time to respond. Your deadline is happening too soon!!! This project is a terrible idea that will negatively impact the entire county if not region. Adequate plans have not been designed to help surrounding towns cope with traffic and impact on local resources, especially water and pollution. The regions is already struggling with lack of potable and irrigable water. Farmers in the region are losing crops to severe drought and lack of rainfall. This railroad project in only one arm of a vast plan Puerto Verde LLC has to take over the county for its own profit. In the immediate vicinity of the railroad, there is an elementary school that will be impacted. While the people spearheading this project have had inside information for years, they failed completely in involving residents/Maverick County voters in on the plan that will change their quality of life for decades. It is the absolute predatory nature of their approach that is the biggest failure of local government to protect its vulnerable citizens. Thankfully, the federal government does have agencies and protocols in place to at least put the brakes and require studies. Kudos to you STB for carefully guiding this process now that local county leaders have failed miserably at protecting the rights and resources of the people of Maverick County.
