I am writing in strong opposition to this ill conceived rail project. This plan will construct a large Rail and trucking terminal in a residential neighborhood. It will haul in municipal garbage to be incinerated, commercial freight, then take out the incinerator ash. In addition, as a common carrier Townline will be obliged to accept hazardous materials for transport. This whole project is fraught with environmental dangers and quality of life problems. I am appalled that Townline Rail was granted a waiver for a full environmental impact statement. Incinerator ash is one of the most toxic combinations of concentrated hazardous waste. It can be spilled in transit, carried in the air and be absorbed into the soil layers. Also with rail line potentially moving hazardous materials such as vinyl chloride, there is the continual risk of derailments. The The Federal Rail road Administration documented roughly !,475 derailments per year between 2005-2021. In this system, these trains will be running in close proximity to homes parks schools and hospitals. This is a commuter rail line. E. Palestine can happen here.
