First of al, as resident/property owners at 23 Glen La, Kings Park, NY, ti has come as quite a surprise to my family and neighbors to recently hear that 140 old northport rd was a proposed Site for a 161 toxic ash-garbage railroad hub. The proposed ash railcars would be 0.6 miles (less than 1 mile) from my property line. Iam shocked and somewhat suspicious that as some of the people that would be most affected by this proposal, we have never been notified by anyone from The Town of Smithtown. We have onlyrecently heard of this proposal by word of mouth from our neighbors in Kings Park community. A primary concern is the health concerns from the 161 railcars being loaded daily with toxic garbage ash. With our houses being so close to the railroad, it is of great concern that the air quality would be destroyed. We have 3 young children ranging in ages 10-15 years old. What will be the health concerns for their young lungs and bodies? Another issue that also does not seem to be adequately considered is the noise and artificial lights running between the hours of 10:00 pm-5:00 am, when wil we sleep? The area was not structured to implement such a railroad hub, with densely populated, residential communities so close to the proposed site. Finally, whatis the environmental impact of the Railroad hub in the proposed area? We have yet to see an Environmental Impact Study! fI any information is available, our community should have a right to review the results of such studies. W e reiect the Rail Hub!!!
