I am a long time resident of Vernal. I've lived here through the numerous boom and bust cycles and have seen first hand the impact that families in our community experience because of the instability of our economy. As the Pastor of a local church, I've personally witnessed and been with families when they've had to make the very difficult decision to leave our community because of the lack of jobs and the inconsistency again in our Area economically. In 2008, when the economy took a significant downturn, we lost around 15 families from our church and community who had to relocate. Since the most recent downturn, we've lost 30 families over the last 4 years who again had no choice but to leave the area. Our church has lost approx 45 families in 11 years! Families that love our church and community and DIDNT want to leave, but again, had little choice. It is very difficult when people share life together in a great place like Vernal and don't have the options that many believe the Uinta Basin Railway will bring go our community and the surrounding area. As a long time resident here, I've talked to a lot of people and the vast majority are very much FOR the railway. I believe our experience is a snap shot of other churches in our community as well and I thank you for the opportunity to share my perspective on this critical matter. Sincerely, Pastor Phil N.
