This would be huge for the Basin in numerous ways. It offers stability and options never before experienced in the area. This will not only create more jobs, but benefit those that are already established by lowering shipping costs and giving access to new markets. Vernal and the surrounding areas are at a plateau for growth and often experiences a sharp decline following oilfield busts. The railway will allow business to ship products, produce, and livestock cheaper and easier than trucking. Taking a lot of the long haul trucks off the roadways, but still utilizing the drivers for delivery to the rail station. Think of how many large trucks will be off the roads between here and Salt Lake. This will also be appealing to future businesses to promote growth (not just oilfield) for the Basin. So if we are looking at impact, we stand to gain much more then we stand to lose. And of the three suggested routes, I am sure we would be able to find the most agreeable with the lowest impact to farmland and local environment.
