As a Duchesne County resident, full time rancher, Duchesne County school board member and as a board member of the Utah Division of Oil Gas and Mining (representing surface and mineral interests) I would like to express my strong support of the railway coming to the Uinta Basin and specifically the Indian Canyon Route. As a school board member I have come to appreciate the tax base that the oilfield has brought to our county. It has enabled us to build quality facilities to meet the student needs. But we have additional facilities that need built and continuing loan payments on recently built facilities. As a rancher I look forward to additional markets being opened up for the hay I produce on my farm. Some of my hay currently is loaded on semi truck rail boxes and then hauled to Salt Lake where it is transferred onto Rail. Removing the extra semi haul could inprove my economics. The Jobs the oilfield creates for many of my friends and family is much appreciated and I see a railway making those jobs more secure as the railway will open up more markets and lessen the unpredictictability and price discounts of the Salt Lake refineries. Finaly, as one of seven board members on our state oil and gas board which oversees all oil and gas developent in Utah, I see the economic benefits that many responsible oil companies bring to our state. As the companies bring jobs and economic benefits to Utah they face a steep price discount on the oil they produce due primarily to transportation and marketing issues. The railway will put them on more equal footing with other oil producing states and we strive as a country to be more energy independent. Thank you for you service on the STB.
