I'm writing in opposition to the proposed Uintah Oil Railway. Drilling for more oil that will be shipped on this railway will significantly add to our current problems of air pollution and climate change. Extraction will require large amounts of water, a precious resource in our dry state. The IPCC has affirmed that we need to switch 45% of our energy sources to clean energy in the next 12 years to have a chance of staying below 2 degrees of warming. Over the next few years there will be a massive transition to clean energy. By the time the railroad is built, the world will be on in the midst of this transition, and oil demand will wane. As a Utah taxpayer, I do not want to take the risk that this railroad will be built and will not be used to it's projected capacity.
