I oppose the UBR doe many reasons. It's cost to taxpayers of 1.2 BILLION dollars is extraordinary, especially for a project that will add significantly to the already poor air quality of the Uinta Basin, increasing respiratory problems for all, but especially children and infants, potentially creating a lifetime of respiratory illness for them. It also uses large amounts of water, which Utah does NOT have. It will destroy the environment around the extraction, risk derailment and its subsequent pollution that the affected communities should not have to live, or die with. Not to mention Increasing Utah's carbon footprint rather than decreasing it, adding to the climate crisis. It will create another boom and bust cycle just like Wyoming went through. Invest the 1.2 BILLION tax dollars on sustainable energy, train workers to build and install solar projects, wind turbines, providing long term employment, long term clean energy, helping the communities involved rather than damaging them. I know the focus is on the quick dollar by exploiting the taxpayers and the environment but the company profiting from this should be paying ALL of the costs, because as soon as the land has been raped, the rail line will be abandoned, the jobs will dry up, and the much wealthier Big Boys will walk off smacking their lips and wiping the dust off their hands, leaving the workers without jobs or benefits and Uncle Sam will say they are lazy and don't deserve welfare, healthcare, etc, etc.
