Although my great grandfather was a railroad conductor for a mining company and I honor his existence, my awareness has changed. Our world climate demands a different energy focus rather than mining type fuel. I oppose the railroad for the following reasons: The railway will significantly increase the Uinta Basin's bad air quality The extracted fossil fuels will significantly add to the climate crisis Extracting the fuels requires large amounts of water which Utah does not have The extraction would significantly degrade the region's landscape The derailment risk is one that communities along the route should not bear It is a major financial risk for the taxpayer It will add to the boom and bust financial cycle of fossil fuel development Judy Schattner
