Sir, I am writing to voice my concerns with Great Lakes Basin purposed rail line through Winnebago County, Il. My first concern is my home which was a 1 room limestone school house built in 1856 and what kind of effect the vibrations from 70 mph trains will have on the limestone. The property value will drop with the tracks only a few hundred feet from my back door. The track will cut through a natural wetland area South of my home. The number of animals displaced could be in the Thousands counting migrating birds (loons, cranes, geese, ducks, and song birds) which have been using this area for who knows how long. When they are displaced it will place additional strain on other wetlands. The permanent wetland residents ( deer, turtles, birds, snakes) will disappear. My last concern is the aquifer This area has the largest aquifer in Winnebago County and the area has a high water table. The whole area sits on a limestone base and if the water table drops will train vibrations destroy the soft limestone base? A train derailment could permanently displace hundreds of people. Some of these people are living on farms which have been in their families for generations. Since Great Lakes Basin cannot guarantee there will not be any accidents its only a matter of time before it will happen and this area will be uninhabitable for a very long time.
