Attn: Docket #FD-35952 Dear Mr. Blodgett, Having reviewed all available information about the proposed GLB project, it is my opinion that the proposed project has failed to provide the documentation need to convince me that this is necessary to support public convenience. For the following reasons, I respectfully request that the STB cease any further action to continue this project. Our neighborhood, although not a town, will be broken apart by the rail line. The farmland drainage in this neighborhood will have to be funneled into a small creek in our front yard which could not possibly handle further runoff. Water can never be stopped, just redirected and this would put our homes and property in danger of flooding. Will the project cover flood insurance for all? Our wells, many not deep, have good water and could readily be contaminated with a chemical or oil spill. Protected Indian mounds and artifacts are in the area. The wetlands in Winnebago County are fragile, but healthy, and need to be maintained, not compromised and broken up. Many acres of wetlands would be destroyed with each mile of railroad. The super soft understructure would hardly support the weight of heavily loaded tank cars. My family's organic vegetable CSA farm would lose it’s credibility with the continued pollutants emitted from continual railroad emissions, not to say the risk of any spills or leakage. If evacuation became necessary, our nearest hospital would also be in the evacuation zone. Where would the injured be taken? Our local elementary school(shirland grade school) which my 3 1/2 yr old son will be going to soon is in the immediate evacuation zone. Again, where would any injured students be taken with the hospital also in the evacuation zone. The above points is what has led me to the conclusion that the GLB project is inconsistent with public safety, convenience and necessity. Please take “no action” on this project. Thank you, Julie Pals
