As a senior citizen residing in Shirland, Illinois and a retired teacher from Shirland School #134, I have two great concerns about the GLB project. 1)When emergency aid is needed (police, fire department, medical, etc), how much extra time will be wasted when having to get around or wait for trains that are projected to come through every 15 minutes? Even with a bypass over Hwy 75, that will not help the families in Shirland. There must also be another bypass over Yale Bridge Road or Forest Preserve Road. 2)The Shirland area is a huge wildlife preserve habitat because of the open wet lands and forest areas. What is the environmental cost to our area if the GLB project is allowed to develop? What about derailments and chemical spills as the one that caused much environmental damage in Rockford a few years ago.
