I am opposed to Great Lakes Basin Railroad as it goes through an agricultural and residential area that will be economically damaged. Home values will dramatically go down, and crop values will drop due to proximity to the railroad and its emissions. Jobs that it would generate would be very short term. The water table in this area is very high, and if the surface water is contaminated, the water supply for both crop irrigation and human consumption will be irreversibly polluted. Loss of property values would be an economic blow that middle income and working people here would not recover from. And many of us would end up with homes and farms that we cannot sell. Please do not allow this railroad to be built.
