I grew up on our family farm located near Rockton, Illinois and I will always treasure the “Lessons of Life” I learned and continue to learn. I went to a country school but we had Public television and my reach to knowledge and understanding of how the world works was not hindered in any way. Living on the farm I developed my sense of fairness, kindness and equality for everything in life. I am now husband, business owner, concerned member of my community and forever and always a part of our family farm. I come to the farm on a regular basis and help when I can to keep the farm running smoothly. My 84 year old mother and brother still live on the farm and operate a successful Christmas Tree business, Keiths Trees. I have photographed and recorded the sound of the beautiful nature of our farm for the professional work that I do and we often have family and friends who come to the farm to reconnect with the elements of life that they cherish. I cannot, in any stretch of my imagination imagine how destroying our farm and the hundreds of other farms and families along this proposed route will benefit anyone now or in the future. I believe the disturbance this proposed railroad will cause will be a crushing blow to 3 states and thousands of lives and livelihoods. Destruction of prime farmland, creating unsafe travel zones, toxic waste, polluting of water sources, destruction of animal habitats, noise levels increasing, and the list goes on. My father and mother purchased this land years ago with the plan that a new heritage was being born and our family would be directly connected to this land and all it had to offer. In exchange we would cherish, protect, and share the land with our family and friends and provide an everlasting example of doing what is right, respecting the land. Please keep these thoughts, and the thoughts others have shared about their families in your mind when you consider this proposal of destruction in creating this railroad. I have faith in our country and the systems that have been put in place to make decisions based on the good of our people and not for big business. Thank You, Doug Connell – Sundown Farm
