I am opposed to granting approval to the Great Lakes basin Railroad. My reasons include: 1-The application includes a vague, undefined need for a 50 foot wide utility area fir future profit-generating right of way. This is beyond the scope of the railroad request. 2-Numerous wetlands will have to be filled. Water will have to be impounded. This is not acceptable a time when surface and groundwater needs more natural filtration, not less. 3-Farm owners may be burdened with added costs to insure rail crossings on their own land. This is not acceptable and unjust to farmers. 4-Certain products in future tank car derailments could endanger not only rural but urban areas. If chlorine gas is spilled, Rockford Memorial Hospital would have to be evacuated. 5-Eminent domain should be restricted to those projects that benefit the public. In this case the benefit would be for private investors. Please reject the Great Lakes Railroad.
