After reviewing the available information about the proposed Great Lakes Basin rail project, it is our opinion that the proposed GLB project has failed to sufficiently provide documentation that supports public convenience and necessity. For the following reasons I respectfully request that the STB cease any further action on this project. There will very little to no positive impact on our community. The only jobs that may be created would be closing the small rural roads that the taxpayers have paid for . These are the same roads the my family and neighbors use to get home everyday, the same roads that our school district's’ buses use to take our kids to and from and school and that emergency personnel use to save lives. The cost that to our communities of rerouting these entities far outweighs any benefit that would justify this rail road. The environmental impact this railroad would have our communities would be catastrophic. In many area aquifers are at risk and contamination would affect the drinking wells of thousands. The proposed rail will negatively affect drainage, irrigation systems and livestock productivity. Even though the proposed rail would not cross our property, it is so close that any derailment would like not only total contamination of our water but probably total devastation of our entire home. Even the idea of this disaster makes us think that we should sell our 7 acres and home and leave now, but just this proposal has lowered our property rates as NO ONE wants to live right next to a bomb train. Please take a careful look at this proposal as this rail would change our communities forever.
