Mr. Navecky, My farm is on the Boone County route and will be split in two by the proposed Great Lakes Basin Rail Line should it be built. No matter what is offered for compensation it will not be sufficient to cover the damage done to the farm which is vital to my income. It will never be desired by farm renters as it is whole. New farm configurations will have to be made for rows that will not be straight. Farmers will not want to cross a field with machinery where trains cross one hundred times a day. They will not want to take a chance of a derailment of shale oil or other chemicals. Transporting equipment to the fields will be incredibly difficult during construction at road crossings. The value of the field will plummet from where it is now yet taxes will continue to rise. Kingsbury Creek and conservation easements along the waterway exist on this property. The railroad will put these environmentally sensitive assets in danger. The farm is also tiled. Building the railroad would require expense of relocating tile. Water will run differently once the easement and grading has been installed. Please do not allow the damage to Boone County from this private project. I ask that you deny the Great Lakes Basin Project as it will forever alter the agricultural face of the community.
