Fair compensation to those affected I no longer live in the area that is to be affected by the proposed railroad route, nor am I indiscriminately opposed to development, however I used to live on Yale Bridge Road less than a mile from the proposed route and I understand the effect that a rail line would have to the property values in that area. Even if a fair market price were to be offered to the property owners whose land is in the path of the proposed route, the effect that a rail line would have to the property values in that area would be disastrous. The route isn’t through an area that is just corn and soybean fields without perception of the sound, vibration and divisive effects of rail but through and adjacent to the properties that people have worked their lives to afford and retire to. Their livelihoods are invested in the land and they live there. Certainly a railroad development will bring economic prosperity to the developers and the few people who are employed by its construction and maintenance. For that reason its development has even arrived to this point. Unfortunately, for those without the money to launch their voices to a point where they are heard and acknowledged, the development of such a project will take from them their small fortunes that they have worked their lives to amass. Undeniably, those next to the rail line will suffer their property values diminishing while the developers of this project see their fortunes grow. Why should those with the most money have the loudest voice and influence to affect the well-being of others for their own profit?
