Dear Director Rutson, On Saturday, September 24, 2016, I learned of a proposed plan by Great Lake Basin Transportation to add a railway through Rock County. This railway is unnecessary and is an environmental hazard. Not only does this proposed railway cross more rivers and wetlands than the original proposed route, it disrupts and goes through a wildlife area that is part of the Audubon Society. I live at 4980 W. Cleophas Rd. in the Town of Beloit. My parents built this home 21 years ago to be away from a subdivision and enjoy the quiet country atmosphere and wildlife. My father passed and we purchased this home from my mother a little over a year ago. It holds great meaning to me and my family. I have three young children, my youngest being 6 years old. We bought the home because it was big enough for my family and has a spacious two acres for our children to play and be safe. We enjoy the quiet country. Our intent was not to have a train traveling at 70 MPH 100 feet from our home. This is not safe for our children. Our peaceful country would be interrupted by a speeding train passing approximately every 15 minutes which would also have to increase speed to travel up a bridge to cross HWY 213 IN OUR BACK YARD! The chemicals or waste that it could possibly transport and the chance to spill so close to homes with young children or even those without children for that matter! We have well water so the possibility of contamination to our water and land. Being that it curves there is a chance for derailment. It goes against every reason my parents built the home and why we moved here. This is our dream home that we have worked hard for and the value will drop considerably if this passes. We would lose drastically if we went to sell because of a railway. We have a beautiful home with lovely land. This proposed railway runs right through our neighborhood in between houses and GLBT states that it starts with one railway with room for growth up to two or three more lines in the future. Ludacris!!! Our town is furious and opposed to the railway. We want a no build at all in the Town of Beloit or Rock County. There is no need. My family asks of you to stand up for the Town of Beloit and say no to GLBT on building a railway. We need your support. Our community is counting on you. Thank you for time. Sincerely, Stephanie J.
