With the situation of more and more people moving out of Illinois, I wonder what is going to happen to all the land that the railroad buys up, destroys with industrial building and then they leave? Already we have two railroads near us that are no longer used. They have not been cleaned up so that a farmer could again use the land. This is what will happen when the GLBT fails. The land will be a barren wasteland that will not be able to be farmed again. It will be just another sight that is an eyesore in the state of Illinois. Next, what about the damage that will be done to the existing farmland after the train goes through? Tiles will be crushed by the heavy equipment, land drainage that has been so carefully created by the farmer will be ruined. Farmland will be worth less money and less crop will be produced. More people will be put out of work than the number that Patton THINKS he will be able to create. Patton is not upfront with us. He is no longer talking to people. Not answering questions and if he was asked he can't answer them. Is he really the guy behind this project? I think the people who will be affected by this project are being treated unfairly. Our entire 4 generation farm will be wiped out by this huge railroad yard. I don't think the railroad is necessary. Let CREATE do their job and make the system that is in place more viable. Use the existing railroad system and make it more efficient. Why are we recreating the wheel, when there is already one in place. I know why....someone is looking to become wealthy by buying up all this land and then selling it to industrial companies. I am also worried about train derailment and contamination of the farmland around the tracks. There are so many damaging situations that have been mentioned by others concerning this train system. How many people need to be displaced, lose their farms, their livelihood just because someone is trying to make a buck off this endeavor? Yes, there are possible alternative routes, but someone is always going to be affected. And no, I don't think that the railroad will actually help anyone or any railroad system.
