Mr Dave Navecky Surface Transportation Board Docket No. FD 35952 Mr. Navecky, I am very concerned about the environmental impact on the proposed Great Lakes Basin Rail Line ending east of Milton near the Lima Marsh. Lima Marsh is a 2000-acre State owned wildlife area that is home to many grassland birds and shore birds. It provides a natural habitat for waterfowl nesting rearing and migratory stopover. In the spring the marsh is a popular stopover for Sandhill Cranes which fly over my house to get to the marsh. My concern is that the increase rail traffic on the rail liner between Milton, WI and Whitewater, WI will have a major impact on wildlife in this marsh. Since the Great Lakes Basin Rail Line will end and connect to the Milton-Whitewater rail, Rail traffic will increase dramatically in this area. In 1956, the Lima Marsh Wildlife area was begun as a Federal Aid in Fish Wildlife Restoration Project for the purpose of protecting wetlands. I feel that the preservation of this area is much more important than increasing the efficiency of freight rail traffic around Chicago.
