To Whom It May Concern: We are property owners of Sumner Township and oppose the Great Lake Basin Railroad proposal and ask your consideration regarding the environmental concerns this railroad would bring to this area of land. Concerns such as the water, the probable spills that would effect the water, the noise train engines bring to the area. The many many acres of prime farm land would be taken away. This area of farm ground has been referred to God's country many times in our life. The rich dark soil produces an abundance of grain and vegetables that help to feed our nation. Another thing to consider is the farm revenue the State of Illinois will lose. Another huge concern is the Grant Park School District #6 and the impact the district would suffer from the proposed railroad. Grant Park School District #6 is an excellent small rural school district known for many academic, sport, and financial recognitions. Locating this proposed railroad in this area will cause many problems for this great school district. A district to the south of Grant Park is suffering and may need to seek help from their neighbor to the north if the state cannot come across with help and funding. We are also lifelong members of Zion Lutheran Church of Grant Park. This church is approaching it's 130th Anniversary of existence. Generations and generations of families have loved ones buried at the church cemetery. Should the railroad be approved, these families will have to relocate their loved ones deceased bodies. There are other cemeteries in the proposed acreage of railroad. Please, please consider just a few of the thousands of concerns of the proposed railroad site. Sincerely, Ralph & Marla Heldt 9914 N.
