I am writing to express my concern with the railroad project near Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See. The project will have a negative impact on the camp and the natural environment there. This camp has positively affected children for 70 years. My kids attend and their grandmother attended many years ago. Progress of the railroad has already impacted communities I've lived in so I know first hand that there IS a significant negative impact on the surrounding communities. I am opposed to this project and do not support the railroad coming near the camp. The benefits of the camp for the community far outweigh the financial benefits of the railroad. Rock Creek flows through Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See in a deep canyon with a series of natural caves originally used by the Native Americans that once inhabited our land. It is one of the most scenic waterways and geologically unique properties in northern Illinois. The GLB project has real potential to adversely impact the creek, the entire watershed and the camp environment. We need to do everything in our power to protect this irreplaceable natural resource for the enjoyment of future generations.
