I am opposed to the Great Lakes Basin Railroad line that they want to put through Porter County. We just recently purchased 10 acres out here and just built a house and we did it for the peace and quiet not to hear trains whistling through our back yard! And what does that do to our property value? I'm sure Mr. Railroad wouldn't like it going through his back yard. But as long as he has money for his pockets that's all that matters to him. This is farm land out here and you are taking peoples livelihoods away from them. They are asked to relocate for the sake of some guy making more money that he knows what to do with while they struggle. And what about when one of them crashes or derails? And it most likely will happen, just read the news how often it happens now! Chicago is more of a commercial area so let them deal with it and the congestion. There are existing rail lines that they can use that don't involve farmers picking up and moving. How do you move farmland anyway? I am so sick of these fat cats always thinking of themselves. Always want to disturb the little guy. Like I said let him put it his backyard. If we wanted to hear trains we would not have bought out in the country. Go away Mr. Railroad!! You are not welcome here in Porter County!
