This comment period is at the worst time possible for me, a farmer, to take time to tell you about some of my concerns about this proposed railroad route. Please extend the comment time. Below is a list of reasons not to approve this project or which I believe must be addressed before approval: 1. Karst terrain with sink holes and streams that seldom run to rivers or lakes. It soaks into the ground. 2. In section 31 town of Lima, Rock County, Wisconsin I believe a bridge is best. Culverts are always installed too high and restrict flow in times of high water. 3. See maps for sections that have had sink holes of which I am aware. Some are still open but most were filled in. They varied in size but some took several large truckloads to fill. Rock County Wisconsin sections: Milton (T.4N.-R.13E.) sections 23,27; Lima (T.4N.-R.14E.) sections 7,8; Johnstown (T.3N.-R.14E.) sections 7,8,9,16,18; Harmony (T.3N.-R.13E.) section 2. Wisconsin UW has a good website on Karst formations in Wisconsin. 4. Cutting the landscape to make grade for the tracks throughout our area will affect ground water that runs out of springs and feeds local ponds and small streams. This is very common in Johnstown Township (T.3N.-R.14E.) Rock County, Wisconsin. Sections 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,16,17,18,19,30. Map available upon request pending approval of property owners. 5. The railroad should own and maintain all bridges needed for it to operate. 6. Railroad needs to provide local emergency services with training and equipment and maintain said equipment necessary to deal with rail accidents as long as the rail is in use. Or have their own. 7. In the event of abandonment or default the property owners should have first option to buy/get the property back. 8. A driveway is needed for access to the property of 4001 N County M, Milton WI 53563. 9. When the railroad splits farm fields, the crossover needs to be 60 ft. wide or more to accommodate large farm equipment. Thank you for your consideration.
