I am writing as a private citizen and property owner where the Great Lakes Basin Transportation, LLC rail line project is proposed. I have two major concerns about this project, my first concern is the road closings since this proposed rail road would slice through our entire county. There has been talk of at least 32 roads that would be affected. Where our property is located all the roads that lead to our daily activities (work, church, shopping, taking care of an elderly parent, picking up grand kids from school, appointments business and personal)would be blocked by railroad crossing. Which leads me to my second concern, which is the safety of not only my own family but the families in my neighborhood (many have lived here for decades). Our neighborhood consists of elderly couples that walk on a daily basis, we have children who play in the fields and ride their bikes, as well as people who walk their dogs and ride their horses. Pets, live stock and wild animals which roam freely. This concerns me because the proposed plan of the railroad crossings, it states that not all will be equipped with flashing lights, bells or gates and the train will not sound a whistle as it approaches our area.
