I am writing as a concerned citizen who lives in an area directly affected by the proposed route. Even if the route is changed the concerns that I have will still be valid for others and because of this I strongly oppose the construction of this line. Below are a few of the issues that I see as problems to the community and environment with this plan. 1. The disruption of water flow will have unpredictable effects of flooding in times of storm and heavy rains, this may cause flooding in homes and across roads making an unsafe environment. 2. In an area that can get heavy snowfall, roads that will be closed will present problems for snow clearance as ploughs will not have the ability to turn on these narrow rural roads. This will lead to additional dangers for winter driving. 3. The addition of so many railroad crossings will present problems for emergency vehicles, school bus routes and other transportation. 4. Noise levels will be intolerable as volume on the line increases. The plan is proposed by an investment group so their goal has to be profit, presumably gained by the volume of trains. We currently hear trains that run on a track some seven miles away and the construction of this new line will bring noise levels to an unbearable level. All of these issues will cause property values to drop immensely, even making some unsellable. Nothing can compensate for the loss of the peaceful rural lifestyle currently enjoyed on the area. The alternates that seem viable include making more use of existing tracks. If oil transportation is a goal of the project, then pipelines may cause disturbance while being built but in the long term will have less impact on communities and farms.
