The Great Lakes Basin line will seriously reduce in many areas the amount of land that can be farmed and it will destroy acres of wooded areas along the rivers and wetlands and even homesteads it passes through. This will result in less CO2 being taken out of the air by plants, the STB needs to calculate the loss to the environment in CO@ being taken out of the air by these plants when it considers the GLB route. The carbon footprint of this proposed rail line is huge. Instead of farm crops, trees or even green grass helping to clean the world's air, we will have stone an gravel train beds with no plants capable of growing beside them. How is the STB going to ensure that this route will not increase greenhouse gases in the world, as millions of plants will be replaced by stone. How too is the STB going to calculate the gallons of flood waters these plants absorb, preventing flooding in the nation? Our plants are what keeps our world healthy and the STB needs to think long and hard before they allow GLB to remove these valuable air cleaners from our world.
