Having listened to my Grandfather who has farmed for over 80 years I have learned a lot. Such as Head-rows in a field, those along the outside of the field have lower yields than the main body of the field. The Great Lakes Basin line will create many more Head-rows in the fields it dissects. The STB needs to take into account the sever loss of production each farmer will face as their PRIME farmland is taken and more head-rows are created in smaller fields. How will a farmer be able to maintain their lifestyles when they are looking a serious production deceases because of smaller fields with more head-rows? The plants in a head-row can be up to 25% less productive than the rest of the field.
