Growing up in Serena, IL, I remember the huge Blizzards we would have in the country. In 1981 we were trapped in our house for a week, as the county and state could not clear the roads and keep up with the blowing snow. I also remember a storm I the 70's that resulted in Hoxsey Road being one lane for days with 15 foot high drifts of snow. Great Lakes Basin Transportation Company needs to have plans in place to deal with unbelievable weather extremes, including the yearly Blizzard. What are those plans? Since none have been stated, other than they believe Kankakee has better weather than Chicago proper, so delays will be less what plans are in place when severe weather hits? The STB needs to ensure this track is built to handle all weather conditions including blizzards, floods and tornados, as well as earthquakes as this line runs along many fault lines.
