Dear Mr. Navecky, I am writing to you about the proposed Great Lakes Basin railroad project. The proposed railroad would run immediately adjacent to Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See, a 4H camp in Manteno, Illinois. Camp Shaw is a place that holds a special place in the heart of thousands of campers and staff, myself included. The GLB railroad would increase noise pollution at camp and in the surrounding area, impacting camp, campers, and programming. Camp Shaw is a place where children go to escape noise and pollution. It's a place for peace, for relaxation, for retreat, and--most importantly--for fun. Putting in a railroad immediately adjacent to camp property would negatively impact this experience. A hike through the woods is not improved by a train thundering by. Camp Shaw is a special and important place to those of us who have attended and to those who will attend in the future. I want my daughter to be able to experience Camp Shaw as I experienced it, without hearing trains go by at all hours of the day and night. I want her to sing campfire songs without being interrupted by noise pollution. Camp Shaw is truly a treasure. Please do not imperil the future of Camp Shaw and impair the enjoyment of future campers by going forward with the GLB railroad project as planned. Please protect Camp Shaw and all those who need a safe, quiet, and fun retreat from the noise and pollution of the city. Best, Alexandra Walsh
