Regarding the Great Lakes Basin Rail Line being proposed to run from Indiana into Southern Wisconsin. The proposed complete path of this rail line runs through some of the most productive farms in the United States. In addition, the farm land in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin that is in the path of this rail line has been documented as some of the best farm land IN THE WORLD. Most of the farm land that is in the direct path of this rail line in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin (specifically Johnstown Township, Rock County, Wi.) has high quality Alpha Silt loam deposited by the glaciers of long ago. The corn yields from this land are the some of the highest in the United States ( > 175 Bushels / Acre) When considering this rail line proposal, I urge you to ask yourself if this rail line will mean more to the human race in the next 200 years than the farm crops produced on this land in the same time frame. This railroad project will not take place without invoking the use of Eminent Domain procedures – not on a few properties involved but on a majority of properties from Indiana to Wisconsin. If this project is allowed to proceed, this valuable farmland will never be used productively for mankind again. Please stand up and take the initiative to put a stop to this project immediately.
