I am vehemently opposed to the proposed the Great Lakes Basin railroad (GLB) project!! My own, extended family & countless other families for over 3 generations have enjoyed the serene, peaceful, naturalistic retreat that Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See provides. The building of a railroad near this beautiful area will severely impact the air quality, noise levels, & naturalistic setting of this once Native American-inhabited land. Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See was founded by the 4-H foundation in 1946 and dedicated to veterans of WWII. Over the last seventy years it has served the camping needs of hundreds of thousands of campers. It is a place of peace and serenity in a world of noise pollution. Each year thousands of campers attend this venue for camping, wedding ceremonies and receptions, retreats, picnics, pool parties and hiking the beautiful Rock Creek and wooded trails. These activities would severely be threatened by the proposed Great Lakes Basin railroad project. Some our fondest family memories are of the time we, our children, & hopefully grand & great grand children have spent/will spend taking part & interacting in all of the activities that Camp Shaw has to offer. There are many other areas a railroad project could be built that would not interrupt the natural beauty of one of the most scenic waterways and geologically unique properties in Northern Illinois. The GLB project has real potential to adversely impact the creek, the entire watershed and the camp environment. I strongly urge you to look elsewhere for completion of your railroad project!!!
