To Whom This May Concern, I am writing in opposition to the proposed GLB Rail Project located very closely to Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See near Manteno, Illinois. As the parent of a child that attends Camp Shaw multiple times per year for Boy Scout of America camping events and Camp Shaw's summer camps, I implore you to stop this rail project from happening. In a day and age when so many of our children are connected to electronic devices, it is imperative that places such as Camp Shaw remain to give children the opportunity to connect with nature, build personal independence, meet new people, and develop skills in perseverence. As an middle school principal, and an educator for 27 years, I see the impact that getting children involved has. I have witnessed that children who are active in such places as Camp Shaw perform better in school and become productive, caring citizens. My 11 year old son comes home from Camp Shaw and asks when he can return. It is always marked on our calendar. And, believe you me, he loves his electronics as much as any other 11 year old. Being outdoors connects his generation with the outdoors. As the wife of a railroad employee, I also see on a daily basis what the noise and pollution these trains can cause. The type of hazardous materials that would be carried by the trains is dangerous to the environment and the children and staff at Camp Shaw. Once again, I beg of you to stop this project. It is what is in the best interest of our children and future generations, not big business.
