If approved, this railroad is likely to introduce significant noise pollution to Camp Shaw which has been at this location for 70 years, delay response of emergency vehicles from Manteno Fire Department to campers and negatively impact the quality of Rock Creek. If approved, projected train traffic is up to 110 trains per day or one every 20 minutes. Noise and vibrations from this project would be less than half a mile from Camp Shaw. Train traffic, noise and vibration day and night will render the camp much less desirable and affect the quality of camp programming. Rock Creek flows through Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See in a deep canyon with a series of natural caves originally used by the Native Americans that once inhabited our land. It is one of the most scenic waterways and geologically unique properties in northern Illinois. The GLB project has real potential to adversely impact the creek, the entire watershed and the camp environment. We need to do everything in our power to protect this irreplaceable natural resource for the enjoyment of future generations.
